Open Night Movie Mesmerizes Pupils and Parents!
St Brigid’s High School, Armagh opened their doors to the Primary 7 pupils and parents from the surrounding area on Thursday 26th January. The prospective pupils and parents were given the opportunity to tour the school and view the facilities and the many displays on show within individual subject departments.
The guests then made their way to the Assembly Hall where they were instantly spellbound by the short movie clip playing of Year 8 pupil Diarmuid Fields describing his first term in St Brigid’s. This clip immediately grabbed their attention as Diarmuid described his fears of starting a new school, the new friends he made, his favourite subjects, funny tales of his favourite teachers and how he would recommend St Brigid’s to any Primary 7 pupil. The video received a massive applause and Diarmuid blushed with delighted as audience members shook his hand in admiration.
The Open night movie can be viewed on You Tube or St Brigid’s Facebook page and has received a large number of hits and positive comments from the wider community.
Ms M Kelly (Acting Vice-Principal) introduced each member of the platform party as they each gave their short speech. The platform party consisted of Mrs A Oates (Vice Chair of the Board of Governors), Mr E O’Hagan (Acting Principal), Reverend Fr K Donaghy (Director of Federation with St Patrick’s Grammar) and past pupils Mr Patrick Tierney (Journalist for The Irish News) and Mr Paul O’Brien (Solicitor with MSJ Belfast).
Both past pupils described their time in St Brigid’s and reinforced the school’s motto “Feabhas a Chur Ar which translates to “always try your best”. The winners of the quiz were Joe Rooney-CBS Armagh (1st place), Edward McDonagh - Mount St Catherine PS Armagh (2nd place) and James Greene- St Patrick’s PS, Armagh (3rd place). Each prize winner received a sports voucher.
Mr O’Hagan thanked all the staff and current pupils for their hard work and the audience for their attendance at the annual Open night and invited guests for refreshments in the canteen.
