Key Stage 3 Science
Hello! Welcome to St.Brigid's Science Department.
St.Brigid's High School Science department is commited to ensuring every child has the opportunity to enjoy learning about world around them.
Pupils undertake a number of units of work which involve a range of activities including experiments and investigations, group work and team challenges, presentations and visits and roleplays and debates.
The units of work covered each year are as follows:
Year 8

Year 9

- Cells and genes
- Earth, Space and the Universe!

Year 10
- Staying healthy
- Importance of plants
- Elements, Compounds and mixtures
- Energy Resources
- Using Chemistry
Pupils will:
- Develop skills in scientific methods of enquiry to further scientific knowledge and understanding
- Develop a range of practical skills
- Research scientific information
- Become problem solvers
- Develop creative and critical thinking
- Be able to self manage
- Be competent communicators
Visits
Pupils enjoy visits to W5, the Science Centre, Odyssey, Belfast.
Science Week
St. Brigids has been celebrating National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) for many years. Previous themes have included - Stay Healthy - Be happy and Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The week long event is crammed full of cross curricular competitions, challenges, visitors, trips and quizzes. The aim of the week is to celebrate science and make it exciting and relevant to every pupil.
Learning together
St. Brigid's Science department is very proud of its links with other schools and the community.
Our year 8 pupils welcomed year 8's from Armagh City High School to 'learn together'. This innovative and exciting day saw pupils from both schools learning about Science and one another.
