The Irish Department
Teacher - Mr Tony Keegan
Throughout the academic year 2008-2009 the Irish department has promoted the language both within the confines of the school and beyond.
During Irish week ( Seachtain na Gaeilge) the department ran several competitions within the school including a quiz conducted in Irish for all first year pupils. Conor Mc Clelland and Leigh Devlin were the members of the winning team. Another first year, Caolan Smith won the prize for the most Irish spoken by a pupil on a pre-selected day.
Outside the school St Brigid’s participated in the annual Feis Ard Mhacha and Caolan Smith, seen holding his medal, came a very creditable second in the poem recitation competition for first year secondary and grammar school pupils in the Armagh area.
Furtermore, seven of our third year pupils, namely, Richard Carlyle, Ryan Trainor, Kevin Aherne, Conall Connolly, Tarran O’Hare, Shane Lavery and Shea Cullen participated in the Feis poster competition where entrants designed various posters which reflected the values of the Gaeltacht.
