GCSE Art and Design at St. Brigids High School
GCSE students at St Brigids High School will engage in challenging projects which give tremendous opportunities to develop and exhibit their creative art work and design skills.Students in each year of key stage 4 aim to develop the following skills and areas :
TWO DIMENSIONAL
creativity and imagination;
communication and expression using artistic media;
knowledge and understanding of art and design principles, techniques and processes;
THREE DIMENSIONAL
practical and intellectual skills;
an ability to produce visual and tactile works (outcomes);
and aesthetic appreciation and understanding
CONTEXTUAL and HISTORICAL STUDIES
The course is divided into two parts:
Part one: Coursework 60%
Part two: An Externally-Set Assignment 40%
Units are internally marked by the teacher and externally moderated by CCEA.
Achievements
From 2003 to present, 95% of St. Brigids High School Art and Design students have achieved examination grades at A*, A, B or C.
ART AND DESIGN "is concerned with a way of learning through action, sensation and observation, which provides insight into experiences which cannot easily be verbalised."
