Information, Communication & Technology (ICT)

IT DepartmentThe department has 3 staff members, Mr M Agnew (Head of Department), Mrs D Grant and Mr K Kelly (Technician). 

The school is linked via a C2k school network to each classroom and three I.C.T. suites.

All classes in Key Stage 3 study ICT for 2 periods each week.

All students in Key Stage 4 study CEA GCSE Information Communication and Technology for 4 periods each week.

Controlled assessment is worth 60% and the examination is worth 40%.

All students complete controlled assessment in the following areas:

• Creating a Game

• Design a Web-site

• Database

• Creating a Spreadsheet

• Design a presentation

In 2010 90% of the students achieved grades A*-C.  This course has proved to be very enjoyable and rewarding as many students continue to study Information Technology at Southern Regional College, St. Patrick’s High School Keady or St Patrick’s Grammar School.

Students can avail of supervised I.C.T facilities each day during lunch-time from 12.40 pm to 1.20 pm and after-school from 3.20 pm to 4.15 pm.

The ICT Department are very much aware of the necessity and need for pupils to plan their careers pathways at important transition points.  In conjuction with the CEIAG department, Marie-Claire Donaghy (Director of Blufish Web Design) was invited to talk to year 10 pupils on the skills and qualities needed to become a web designer.
