At St. Brigid’s High School, we provide a School Advisor or Counsellor to help pupils with all aspects of school life.
There is an opportunity for them to speak to the Advisor if they have concerns over their school work, or if they need help to resolve issues with their school relationships as a means to helping them succeed.
There is also a link between the school and external counselling associations and pupils may avail of these.
It is helpful for pupils to know that their concerns will be listened to sympathetically and confidentially, while working within the perimeters of our Child Protection Policy.
Time is set aside by the Counsellor, Mrs. J McGuigan should a pupil seek help, or be referred by a parent, teacher or school friend. A meeting is then arranged - and the guidelines agreed during any discussions are followed up and monitored to ensure that any issues have been resolved.
The process of counselling pupils has in our experience been successful. Many pupils have expressed their gratitude for practical advice, which they have said has left them feeling ‘less pressured’ and ‘more valued’ by the School.
